Tape Processing

Methodology key

Scope and Plan
We discuss your objectives in relation to the media that you have at hand and resolve an outline plan with a cost estimate.

Assessment
We assess the media and advise indicative timings for results as well as any options that might come from the media.

At this stage we also advise what tape sets can be processed with our standard approach or where other sets require alternative processes.

We will quantify any additional work needed to complete your project.

Data preservation
If your media is damaged, aged or worn, we may undertake additional steps to ensure that the data is preserved.

Catalogue
Tapes are catalogued to determine sets where this is unclear and to provide information that might allow some tape sets to be considered redundant.

Index
This is where the tape content is used to populate an index. Our facility has the capacity to ingest multiple terabytes per hour –however this varies with the media type and backup software used.

Search
Once tape sets are indexed, we present the search index over the web to the clients who use a secure portal to search and tag data for extraction.

This may be redundant where all tape data is extracted as part of a matter and other search or discovery technology is used for the case.

Extract
Files and / or tape sets marked by the user are extracted and copied to media or exposed as part of a repository for file transfer.

Return
Once the aims of the plan are achieved we will securely erase any copies of your data and return your original media.

Your tapes are held in our fireproof safe until used. We aim to return tapes to the owner as soon as possible.
